WiS Lesson 8J "Special Interest"

The original Writing in Stereo was published online back in the late 1980's.  Its purpose was to apply creative radio dramatics or broadcast journalism to all aspects of the teaching of high school English.  Each lesson included a lesson plan and notes.  I'm sharing these with you here.WR03facade.jpg UNIT OBJECTIVE: (VIII) The student will practice the confident pursuit of information in the classroom simulation, "Special Interest." LESSON OBJECTIVE: (J) In a Bond Priorities Board, the students will hold a hearing. MATERIALS REQUIRED: Paper and pencil INTRODUCTION: Our Bond Priorities Board now must hold a hearing to give all our special interests a chance to plead the case for their issue. PROCEDURE 1. Allow the groups sufficient time to prepare their remarks or presentation. 2. Allow all four 10-15 minutes to present before the committee and the rest of the class. 3. Members of the media may ask questions after the remarks, publicly or in interviews. EVALUATION FOCUS: Concentrate on the quality of the presentations and the aggressive questioning by members of the press. Both should be effective.
