WiS Lesson 8K "Special Interest"

The original Writing in Stereo was published online back in the late 1980’s.  Its purpose was to apply creative radio dramatics or broadcast journalism to all aspects of the teaching of high school English.  Each lesson included a lesson plan and notes.  I’m sharing these with you here.

UNIT OBJECTIVE: (VIII) The student will practice the confident pursuit of information in the classroom simulation, "Special Interest."writingmini.jpg LESSON OBJECTIVE: (K) As member of the Bond Priorities Board, select two issues of highest priority. MATERIALS REQUIRED: Paper and pencil INTRODUCTION: Now there's a decision to be made. The Bond Priorities Board must vote and select two issues for the referendum. PROCEDURE 1. Allow the board a few minutes to make up their minds. 2. The Chair calls the vote. Members vote for two. 3. If there are two clear winners, hold a second vote allowing board members to vote only once for those tied. EVALUATION FOCUS: Look for student leadership and prompt media response to the decision.
